Counselor Training Program

1. Level 1 Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Intern*;

Nevada AADAPTS will provide internship eligible individuals with all information necessary to complete the application process resulting in certified intern status by the Board of Examiners. This will include completing the application process, securing an intern supervisor, completion of required training through the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT) resulting in additional certifications. Introduction of the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency requirements in the areas of assessment, placement, treatment planning and records management. Additional supervision will be provided for certified intern’s to access information related to effective counseling skills and evidence based practices.

Total supervision time: 24 hours in addition to required CASAT trainings (additional 12 hours)

*Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Intern requirement includes active participation in a degree program in a counseling related field.

2. Level 2 Certified Counselor*/Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor*;

Nevada AADAPTS will provide eligible individuals with all information necessary to complete the application for testing process resulting in Certified Counselor or Licensed Counselor status by the Board of Examiners. Preparation and oral board review preparation including practice tests. This will include completing the application process for national testing. Additional training will be provided in the areas of pharmacology, assessment, placement and discharge. Supplementary supervision will be provided for certified intern’s to access information related to effective counseling skills and evidence based practices. Provisional certification and/or license will also be secured.

Total supervision time: 24 hours in addition to required trainings (additional 12 hours).

*Certified Counselor requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a counseling related field.
*Licensed Counselor requires a Master’s Degree in a counseling related field.
